Carbon Based Mtls
Regardless of the financial status of the carbon fiber industry, there has always been a gap in the supply of specialty materials that carry a limited demand. By focusing on the needs of programs that have low volume requirements for specific thermal, electrical or surface properties MTLS has successfully bridged that gap for blue chips, the DOD and small companies, alike.
Static Dissipation
By physically manipulating the structure of PAN based carbon fiber during our heat treatment process we are able to manufacture materials with a tailored resistivity. Subsequent processing allows us to further control the electrical properties of both the fibers and their woven and nonwoven forms.
Friction
MTLS is now incorporating a novel technique for optimizing the surface of our carbon fibers. We have demonstrated that we can optimize the interfacial properties when used in conjunction with a number of resin systems. By enhancing the bond strength at a specified carbon content we improve the performance and life cycles of a number of friction components.
Adsorption
MTLS is currently offering adsorptive media produced from activated carbon fiber. Our latest technology involves a proprietary manufacturing technique that controls surface activation in a manner that allows for subsequent processing on traditional textile equipment.
Thermal / Ablative
By partially carbonizing oxidized polyacrylonitrile MTLS is able to produce an insulating fiber with an LOI that exceeds that of all commercially available organic products. By further converting them into nonwoven forms new performance levels are being realized for a number of thermal/ablative applications.
