MTLS is now incorporating a novel technique for optimizing the surface of our carbon fibers. We have demonstrated that we can optimize the interfacial properties when used in conjunction with a number of resin systems. By enhancing the bond strength at a specified carbon content we improve the performance and life cycles of a number of friction components.
Clutch Plates
High performance parts found in wet transmission systems generally involve a trade-off between performance and durability.  By choosing a fiber of an appropriate carbon content and then treating the surface of the fiber to enhance the fiber-matrix interface our customers are able to minimize stiction and extend the service life of their clutch assemblies.  Run parameters may also be adjusted for optimization when coupled with a given phenolic resin.
Torque Converters
The novel techniques developed for clutch plates have been extended to air-laid carbonaceous felts to enhance the performance of torque converters. In addition to working with traditional needled materials MTLS can supply nonwovens produced on a Malivlies for proper channeling of fluids.
